What is a ‘Hackspace’? #

We’ve spent some time thinking about this, and we can summarize it to the following:

A workplace; Somewhere where members can work on projects, with tools and space that may not be available to them otherwise.

A community; A group of like minded people who want to share their interests, skills, and passion with each other.

A meeting place; where interesting speakers, community projects, and artists can come to share their passion.

In short, a hackspace is a collaborative and supportive environment where people can come together to pursue their interests and passions, share their knowledge and skills, and work on projects in a community of like-minded individuals.

Why St. Helens? #

St. Helens has a rich history; coal mining and glassmaking were the two industries that really put the town on the map. Companies like Pilkington, Beechams, and Ravenhead Glass made St. Helens a hub of innovation and enterprise.

Today, St. Helens is a town that has undergone significant changes since its industrial heyday. However, the legacy of its past success lives on in the adaptable workforce and supportive community that remains in the area.

By providing a local space for people to work on projects, share ideas, and build new businesses, we hope to help St. Helens thrive once again. Our goal is to create a community of makers, artists, and entrepreneurs who can collaborate and create together, building a new chapter in the story of this great town.
